Dana was born and raised in Eau Claire, the son of the late Lucille Wachs, a math teacher, and Ray Wachs, a former Eau Claire City Attorney and City Manager. His political activism began in 1968 in Eau Claire as a volunteer for Hubert Humphrey’s presidential campaign. Now married with three adult children, Dana has practiced law in Eau Claire for 28 years and works to represent people who have been injured. He has been a small business owner for 26 years and previously also served as an Eau Claire City Council Member at Large (2009-2012). Dana’s strong roots in the Eau Claire community ground him in the Chippewa Valley even while he is fighting for his constituents in Madison.
Dana has a passion for fairness. In his work, he has fought insurance companies to make sure his clients are treated fairly. A strong advocate of voting rights, Dana led the Eau Claire County Protect the Vote effort from 2000 – 2011, during which time he also served as Chief Election Council for the Eau Claire County Democratic Party. He has spent countless hours volunteering to make ensure all eligible voters can vote, working to provide free legal services for those who can’t afford to pay attorneys, and striving to protect the civil justice system. He has taken this passion with him to the Assembly, where he has successfully fought efforts to destroy the Lemon Law and measures that would have made it harder for injured people to recover medical bills from the parties responsible for their injuries.
Dana has served in the Assembly from January 2013 to the present and has been active on the Judiciary Committee, the Colleges and Universities Committee, the Workforce Development Committee, and the Constitution and Ethics Committee.
