Candidate Biography
From candidate Website
I was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I spent part of my childhood there, and then moved to Southern California with my mother and sisters when my parents divorced. I returned to Eau Claire to graduate from Memorial High School.
I graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with a degree in English. I obtained my MA from Marquette University in Milwaukee, and I taught English composition at Marquette while earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. In 2005 I obtained my Master of Science in Nursing degree. I’ve worked in many areas in nursing–from labor and delivery through hospice and end-of-life care–and everything in between. At this time, I am an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, where I have been for the past six years. I am grateful for my education and opportunity, and look forward to creating a climate where we can all realize our dreams. For several years I owned and operated my own business, so I understand the struggles business owners face.
I am married to a wonderful husband and I have three adult children. Throughout their childhood I was deeply involved in their education and am indebted to the dedicated teachers in the Hayward School District, where my children attended public schools. I have sat on various boards in the community, and have served as a volunteer in several organizations in the area.
