Elected to serve the 6th District in 2006, Gary is the Ranking Member of the Assembly Committee on Renewable Energy and Rural Affairs and also serves on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Workforce Development. During his first term, Gary served on four committees – Agriculture, Rural Affairs (vice chair), State Affairs, and Biofuels and Sustainable Energy.
As a business owner, community leader and lifelong Shawano County resident, he has gained years of valuable experience that he uses in his role as a state representative:
Economic Development & Business Experience
- Director, Badger AgVest, LLC – a first-of-its kind, statewide angel investing group that connects entrepreneurs and seed money investors, which increases the flow of capital into Wisconsin for value-added businesses
- Former Director, M&I Bank–Shawano – a locally-controlled financial institution with more than $270 million in assets
- Founding Board Member, Cooperative Resources International – a $120 million member-owned holding cooperative that markets products and services both nationally and internationally
- Chair, UW Center for Dairy Profitability – develops, coordinates, and conducts effective interdisciplinary educational and applied research programs emphasizing business management, human resource management, production systems, finance and marketing systems
- Member, Shawano Area Chamber of Commerce
Education Experience
- Strategic Planning Committee, University of Wisconsin–Extension Service – recommended improvements to Shawano County’s Extension programs
- Advisory Board, University of Wisconsin-Madison – advised College of Agricultural & Life Sciences on its programs and activities
