Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt was elected to serve the 52nd District of the Wisconsin State Assembly in November of 2010 and took the oath of office the following January. In his first term in office he served on the Criminal Justice & Corrections Committee, Education Committee, Children & Families Committee and was vice-chair of the Urban & Local Affairs Committee. He has been an active legislator taking part in many community activities and meetings throughout the district. Numerous times he has held town hall meetings and enjoys meeting individually with constituents upon request.
Jeremy first held public elected office in 2005 when he was elected to the Fond du Lac City Council in his first run for office. He was reelected in 2007 and 2009 receiving the endorsement of the Association of Commerce in all three election victories. He was chosen to be Vice President by his peers for three consecutive years, and declined the Presidency when it was offered. In his time on the Fond du Lac City Council Jeremy was an advocate of open, honest, transparent government. He was a watchdog on keeping taxes in line with revenue and successfully worked with other council members in keeping the city below state levy limits each year.
Jeremy was born in Fond du Lac on Nov. 22, 1966. The ninth of eleven children, he was raised with his brothers and sisters in the home of Joyce and the late Richard Thiesfeldt. Jeremy is a 1985 graduate of Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School (Jackson, Wisconsin) and a 1989 graduate of Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minnesota) where he served as student body president. Upon graduating with a degree in elementary education, he began his teaching career at a Lutheran elementary school in West St. Paul, MN. Jeremy also taught at the elementary level in Lannon, WI before returning to Fond du Lac in 1999 to teach high school students at Winnebago Lutheran Academy. His duties at WLA have included teaching American government and physical education, coaching softball, basketball, and soccer, as well as coordinating intramurals and Veterans Day events. He has held office and served on committees for the WELS Association of Lutheran Educators, Wisconsin Lutheran State Teachers' Conference, WELS Minnesota District Teachers' Conference, and Marian University School of Education Dean's Council. He has also volunteered thousands of hours of his time to coaching athletics at the primary, elementary, and high school levels.
Jeremy and his wife, Cindy, have been married since 1990. Their marriage has been blessed with four children, two attend college, one is in high school and one is in grade school.
Having spent over 20 years as a parochial school teacher, Jeremy is a big believer in education. He believes that the best education comes not from state-of-the-art school buildings, increased spending, or 8am-3pm teachers, but rather from strong, strict, involved, loving parents, and teachers who hold students to high standards.
Jeremy is a life-long active church member. He has been a Sunday school teacher for several years, and has served on several boards and committees in each congregation in which his family has held membership. He and his family are currently members at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac, where his wife, Cindy, serves as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher and church organist.
When he has time, Jeremy likes to travel with his family on road trips across the country. He also is an avid sports fan, Green Bay Packers stockholder, and collector of sports cards, sports memorabilia, and political items.
