In 1968, Jim obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from Michigan Tech. His early work experience was in the metallurgical department at Ladish Forging in Cudahy. After 24 years of service, Jim retired from John Deere, where he had worked as a manufacturing engineer. Since 2004, Jim has worked as a substitute teacher in the Horicon School District.

Jim Grigg was first elected Mayor of Horicon in 2006 and was re-elected without opposition in 2010. Prior to serving as Mayor, Jim was elected to the Horicon City Council. During his four years on the City Council he was chairman of the Public Works and Development Committee and the Park Board. As Mayor, Jim has been active with the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, a voluntary nonprofit and nonpartisan association of cities and villages that acts as an information clearinghouse, advocacy organization and legal resource for Wisconsin municipalities.

Jim and his wife, Sue, a dental hygienist, have been married for 40 years and have two married children. Son James is in Naval Intelligence at the Pentagon and daughter Kathryn is a clinical pharmacist in Middleton.

Jim is deeply committed to his community. He is a member of the Horicon First Presbyterian Church, the Horicon Rod and Gun Club, the Neosho-Mayville-Horicon Masonic Lodge, the Navy League, and Sons of the American Legion, Post 157. In addition to being a retired member of the Horicon Fire Department, he regularly serves as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army and delivers meals-on-wheels in Horicon.

Jim knows the people who live in the 39th Assembly District are hungry for a non-divisive, forward-looking representative; and Jim intends to be that leader.
