I was born in Stevens Point and raised on my parents' small dairy farm in Galloway, WI, back when we still had to be aware that we were on a “party line.” As a bi-lingual, 1st generation American of Latvian descent, the 3rd of 3 children, I internalized a strong work ethic, sense of thrift, a belief in the importance of education, and lived through my parent’s realization of the American Dream. In the late 70s, I began college at UW-LaCrosse, but left to serve as a Light-Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic in the US Army for four years, returning to school at UW-Madison, where I also served in the local reserve unit. In the years to come, I worked as a punch press operator, telephone sales representative, warehouse worker, tractor-trailer inspector, and milling machine operator in Lacrosse, Dane, and Marathon counties. In the early 90s I worked with horses professionally, first as the barn manager at a show barn in the Madison area, then with thoroughbred racehorses (including offspring of Secretariat and Seattle Slew) in Chicago and Colorado. While in Colorado, as the assistant manager at a Denver area equestrian center, I decided I couldn’t afford to keep working with horses, regardless of how much I enjoyed it In 1996, while working as, for example, a grinder operator for a Marathon county manufacturer, I earned my B.S. degree in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College. I then worked for a few years as a blow-molding machine operator (any black gas station trash bin could have been of my manufacture) in Dane County. In 2001, I moved back to Marathon County and attended Northcentral Technical College. While there, I was elected as the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) student chapter’s Secretary and after that, its President. I was also appointed to the college’s Advisory board as a student representative and Graduated with Honors twice, earning two A.A.S degrees in Computer Information Sciences. In 2006, I moved to Waukesha, WI and decided to continue my career as a software developer here, in Waukesha County. I bought a home within walking distance of downtown in 2009. This is where I’ve decided to build the rest of my life.
