Ryan was raised in the Delavan area and is a 7th generation Delavan - Darien Walworth County resident on his mother's side. Ryan was influenced at a young age by his family to get involved and to give back to his community to make it a better place to live. His Great-Great Uncle Ralph Gosso was a long-time small business owner and elected official serving both at the local level and Walworth County representing the Darien area as both a Village President and County Board Supervisor for well over 30 years.
Ryan is a Delavan-Darien High School Graduate, and has a Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Whitewater in Administration and Public Policy. At the age of 24 years old Ryan ran against an incumbent City Alderman and won the election to become the youngest ever elected City of Delavan official in its history back in 1999 and still is. At the age of 27 in 2002 Ryan ran for Mayor of Delavan and lost by 4 votes in the closest election for Mayor in Delavan's History. Ryan is currently serving in his 6th term as 3rd District Alderman on the Delavan City Council. During his time on the city council Ryan has served in the leadership roles of Council President, Vice-President and Chairman of the Finance, General Operations, and Public Works Committees. As well as serving as council representative to many other committees over the years.
Ryan was recognized by Clean Wisconsin as their Local Elected Official of the Year (2007) for his hard work in leading Delavan to a cleaner, safer environment. Ryan is also very active in the community by serving in the Delavan Lions Club as a former club president and member since 1997 to the present. A former member and club president of the Delavan-Darien Kiwanis Club, and is currently a member of the Walworth County and Delavan Historical Societies. Ryan is also serving or has served in the past on a couple of Wisconsin State Boards appointed by the Governor. Those being the State Real Estate Board, and the Land and Water Conservation Board. Ryan is a homeowner and has one son in the Delavan-Darien school district.
