From candidate Website
Thomas Weatherston and his wife, April, were both born and raised in Buffalo New York, and then moved to the Racine area, where they have lived for over 35 years. Tom’s background and experience show why he is the best choice to represent the 62nd District in the State Assembly.
After high school Tom served in the United States Air Force as a civil engineer including duty in Vietnam. After returning home, Tom attended Erie Community college where he earned an AAS degree in Construction Management. He then went on to graduate from State University College of New York at Buffalo with a BS in Industrial Engineering. Tom also holds a United States Air Force certificate of completion in Civil Engineering, Pavements and Grounds School.
After graduation Modine Manufacturing Company recruited Tom and relocated his family to the Racine area. The Racine area has been his home ever since.
At Modine, Tom was hired to be one of the Facilities Project Engineers with project management responsibility at all 10 Modine US locations. By the time he retired he was the head of that department with global plant management and real estate responsibilities. The experience gained in his career has allowed Tom firsthand knowledge of what businesses are looking for when in the process of site selection or expansion planning. This insight will allow Tom to change the way Madison does business so that the Racine community can once again be a strong economic engine for the rest of the state.
Tom is also an adjunct instructor at Gateway Technical College where he has been teaching Motorcycle Safety for the last 12 years.
Experienced Community Leader
As an area resident for over 35 years, Tom has always strived to make our community a better place to live. As a Village of Caledonia Trustee and Caledonia Utility District Commissioner, he has developed a passion for local government and helping residents navigate it. Tom will take that experience to Madison and be your advocate fighting for lower taxes, reduced government spending and less government waste.
Commitment to Service
Tom has been very active in various veterans’ organizations. He is a member of VFW post 10301 and the Vietnam Veterans of America post 767. He is also the past president of Racine Area Veterans, Inc. – an organization dedicated to the memory and honor of military veterans from our area. Tom serves on the local Honor Guard providing services at local veteran funerals.
Tom and his wife April have been married 34 years, and have one son Charles. Charles and his wife Amy are career Sergeants in the US Air Force. Tom and April are very proud of them!
