Tricia Zunker is running for Congress to be a voice for the people of northern Wisconsin – people like the family farmers and working people she comes from, with roots in the Wausau area going back generations. Tricia learned the importance of hard work and a fair day’s pay from her family: her mother, who is a proud union member (USW Local 2-224) for over thirty years, including serving over a decade as union secretary; her father who was a laborer with specialty carpentry skills; and her grandfather, who farmed in the Town of Easton (Wausau), Wisconsin, after serving in the US Army. He also served 36 years in the Army Reserves and retired as a Master Sergeant. The first in her family to graduate from college, Tricia went on to law school and became a practicing attorney and law professor. In 2013, she was elected by her People, the Ho-Chunk Nation, to serve as Associate Justice of the Ho-Chunk Supreme Court. She was re-elected to that position in 2017. In 2018, Tricia was elected to the Wausau School Board and currently serves as board president. On the school board, she works hard to ensure that all children receive a good education, regardless of background, economic status, or family circumstances. She is also an advocate for policies that improve staff morale and treat teachers like the professionals they are. From her office in Wausau, Tricia teaches remotely as a professor at three institutions. In each of these academic environments, she works with non-traditional students, helping them achieve their academic goals that would not be possible in a typical brick and mortar setting. Tricia spends her free time with her son exploring train museums (his passion), listening to live music, or simply relaxing at home in Wausau with their rescue pup, Diesel.
